Q1: When will ________ be out in stores? How do I find out more about it?

A:    Our new titles will usually be out for sale every Tuesday of the week. For the latest information and update,
do check with our main website, (updated regularly every Monday). Synopses are also available online under our              catalogue section.

Q2: Why does the frequency of your manga differ from title to title?

A:      There are two main reasons:

  1. Different titles have to go through different channels of approvals. Some have more “red tape” then others,
    hence the longer time lapse.
  2. Depending on the complicatedness of a particular title in terms of translations, touch-up/layout and materials requisition, the production time can and does vary in accordance.

Q3. So how long does it take for a manga to be published?

A:      On average, publication of a manga can take around 1 to 4 months from time of production to out date,
subject to the conditions as stated above.

Q4. It's been months/ years since the last volume of _________ is out. What's taking the next volume so                  long to be published?

A:      There are a few reasons for the no show/sudden long wait:

          1. The next volume has not been published in Japan .

  • In Japan, the frequency of each new volume of manga is usually 3 to 6 months per new volume. In rare cases, there are titles with frequencies of just one volume a year.

2. The next volume doesn't exist, because:

  • The mangaka (comic artists) has stopped drawing this series,
  • The original publisher has dropped this series.

Specific examples will include Ragnarok: Into the Abyss and Young Guns . Both series are on an “indefinite hiatus”, as the authors have stopped drawing the series.

          3. We no longer hold the license for that particular title.

Q5: Why was there a change in the release date published on your webpage?

A:      There are a few possible reasons for the postponement of a date:

  1. The scheduled books were not delivered on time for it to be dispatched to our distributors and the stores.
  2. There was a quality problem with the batch that was delivered from the printer, and it had to be rejected.
We regret for the inconvenience caused. Please refer to our website for information on titles release news.

Q6. So the CY website states that the manga I want is out, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it
             anywhere? Help!

A: Since everybody has a habit of stalking their favourite manga stores, and manga shops do carry a limited supply per         order, it's possible that either:

  1. The shop had sold out its first batch orders, and is in the process of reordering from us.
  2. The shop in question has yet to display their goods for sale.

If you can't find what you're looking for, it always helps to just enquire with the people working there, and for some stores, it is possible to get them to reserve a copy for you.

And if all else fails, you can try placing your orders with us direct, as we do cheques orders for local addresses.

Q7. I just recently purchased a manga, only to find I got damaged goods! What do I do?

A: Fret not! There are two ways to go about getting your book exchanged.

•  Exchange it directly with the shop you had bought the manga from. Most stores have a 7 day exchange policy, and           you will most likely be required to show some proof of purchase (like a receipt), so always keep your receipts handy        until you have thoroughly inspected your wares.

This is the fastest and most recommended method of exchange.

•  Exchanging via CY:

Should the above method fail for any reason there is an alternative you can try to get your damaged copy exchanged with us.

•  Post us your copy of the damaged book, enclosed with a note with your contact details (Name and contact number).
To facilitate a faster and smoother transaction, please indicate the “damage” of the book.
•  Please also enclose in your mail, a separate SELF-ADDRESSED B5 envelope with appropriate postage stamp
(that means a new envelope with your name and home address written on it, and the appropriate postage stamp for

us to send the copy back to you quick. A $1 stamp should more than cover the postage cost of a copy of manga)
•  Please allow us 1 to 2 weeks to process your request.
•  Please send your damaged copy to the following address:

Chuang Yi Publishing Pte Ltd
Attn: (Sales/Customer Services)
Blk 2, Pasir Panjang Road
Alexandra Distripark #07-08
Singapore 118481

Terms and conditions:
•  Exchanges are only applicable for titles bought less than a month , and not exchangeable for a different title.
•  Books cannot be exchanged back for cash.
•  Titles may not be exchanged if goods are damaged due to user's negligence or regular wear and tear.
•  Chuang Yi Publishing reserves the right to reject an exchange if certain terms and conditions have not been met.
Exchanges will be handled on a case by a case basis. .

Q8.Do you ship your manga overseas? How do i order online?

A: As most of our titles are exclusively licensed to the Singapore market. we can't and we don't do direct sales
     overseas.

Q9: I know CY publishes this particular manga, but what about its anime ? Is it coming to Singapore? Are you             planning to sell it?

A: Anime and manga hold mutually separate licenses . As it currently stands, we do not hold any licenses for anime.         So we won't be able to confirm if it will come to Singapore or where/if it will be sold in local stores.
That is a question that should be directed to the relevant licensees for the local distributor of anime.

Q10:Why do you publish certain titles in Chinese, but not in English and vice versa?

A: Just as anime and manga hold separate licenses, licenses are also mutually separate in terms of language and                   territory; meaning to say, if we are publishing a title in both English and Chinese, we hold two licenses for the
     same title
– one for English and one for Chinese, each with its own pre-assigned conditions.
There are cases where we are granted the license to publish a certain title in ONE language,
     but not the other.

Q11. Do you do any form of censorship to the manga you publish?

A: In compliance with the censorship laws in Singapore, some graphic scenes may be edited and sent to the
publishers/authors for approvals before print. However, we make it an effort to keep these cases to an absolute
minimum to preserve the author's original art as much as possible. (Anything that is too perverse or requires
extensive censorship is probably something we won't look into publishing in the first place.)

We are pleased to inform our readers that less than 2% of our current publications have had to undergo this
“makeover”.

Q12. How do you guys know what to publish? Can I make a recommendation?

The people behind the team, like you, are fans who are in touch with local and foreign manga trends, as well as
related markets (like anime and J-culture). We also get regular feedback from our sales team who do the legwork
and from our forums, emails and guestbooks where we hear from readers like you.

We appreciate and welcome regular feedback from our readers to let us know what're we're doing right and where
we  can improve. Recommendations for titles we have yet to publish are definitely encouraged, although we cannot         guarantee that it may be published for certain as we do get many requests. However, all feedback is treated as a
potentially great lead for our team to follow up on.

After all, we would like to publish what you would like to read.

Q13. How can I tell if my manga is a pirated copy?

A: Quality of print aside, all authentic manga (regardless of language it is published in) will not just bear the name of the      local publisher in question, it will also bear the copyright information of a Japanese publisher , usually found back
page of the manga (although in some American versions it appears in front).

A typical copyright information will include when the original version of the manga was first published, similar to the following:

© Author's name

First published in Japan in 200X by (Japanese Publisher).
You will notice some of the more frequently mentioned names of bigger Japanese publishing houses such as:
Shogakukan (Pokémon, Absolute Boyfriend) , Hakusensha (Fruits Basket, Vampire Knight) , Shueisha (Naruto, Bleach), Square Enix (Full Metal Alchemist) Kodansha (Tsubasa R.C, Magister Negi Magi) and Kadokawa (Girls Bravo, DN Angel) .

Also, if the price of a manga sounds way too good to be true, it usually is.
