Introduction
Sugar and Spice gals!
Life started out pretty ordinary for middle school girl Ichigo Momomiya. Like all girls her age, her biggest problems were largely over school, friends and certain members of the opposite sex. All that is about to change, however, when she decides to visit a mew…I mean, museum together with her crush, Aoyama.
Accidentally zapped with a mysterious DNA ray, Ichigo begins to notice some pretty bizarre changes in her habits. She starts to falls asleep in class, develops an inane craving for fish and actually lands on her feet from a 3-story leap!! And just when things can’t get any stranger, she is attacked by a mutant creature and instinctively transforms into a superhero gal - complete with catchphrase, super powers and weapon to boot! She is Mew Ichigo, champion for justice! Or so says the two guys who soon ‘recruited’ her into their little secret organisation anyway…
Soon to be joined by her fellow teammates - Mew Mint, Mew Lettuce, Mew Pudding, and Mew Zakuro (Pomegranate) - all with their own set of powers courtesy of the same DNA ray which zapped Ichigo - the girls must now learn to harness their new found powers for good and protect earth from the threat of alien invasion! What strange aliens will they encounter, and can Ichigo’s life ever be normal again?

Ichigo is your typical middle school girl who thought the biggest problem in the world was getting her crush Aoyama to notice her. That is, until she was infused with the DNA of a wild mountain cat! Now her biggest problem is preventing aliens from taking over the earth… AND getting her crush Aoyama to notice her! Oh well, nothing’s perfect! |

AKA: Mew Mint

Minto is from a well-to-do family, and naturally comes across as a little stuck-up to the rest of the gang (except for Zakuro, naturally). She is the first teammate that Ichigo manages to find, but of course, their first meeting didn’t go down too well with Ichigo at all… |
Name: Retasu Midorikawa
AKA: Mew Lettuce
Infused with the DNA of a: Black Finless Porpoise
Attack: Ribbon Lettuce Flash
Retasu is a shy girl who is a little bit clumsy. She lacks confidence to do many things, but with the encouragement of Ichigo and her friends, Retasu is slowly learning to come out of her shell and let her personality shine. |
Name: Pulin
AKA: Mew Pudding
Infused with the DNA of a: Golden Lion Tamarin (a monkey species)
Attack: Ribbon Pudding Ring Inferno
The youngest of the girls, Pulin is a hyperactive child and a skilled acrobat! Always standing up for the weak, she and Ichigo were to encounter the first alien, Kish. When Ichigo was in trouble, she instinctively pushes Ichigo out of harm’s way without thinking about her own safety, and transforms into Mew Pudding! |
Name: Zakuro Fujiwara
AKA: Mew Zakuro
Infused with the DNA of a: Grey Wolf
Attack: Ribbon Zakuro's Pure!
Zakuro is a popular model of the Irie production company and appears to be the eldest of the girls. She is the last member to be recruited into Tokyo Mew Mew, but a girl of such fame does not just see ANYONE, so to get close to her, the girls had to go undercover…for auditions at the company Zakuro works at! |
Name: Masaya Aoyama
AKA: The object of Ichigo’s affections
Aoyama’s out to save the earth! Well…not from alien invasion, but from human He takes time off to clean up gunk in the river, preaches about the use of tissue paper killing the rainforests and is passionate over of the plight of endangered species, too! Come to think of it, our environmentally conscious lad seems to be aware of everything that’s going on around him…everything except for the fact that Ichigo has a huge crush on him! |
Name: Ryo Shirogane
AKA: The (other) object of Ichigo’s affection?? - well, it remains to be seen!
Ryo is one half mentor of the mew-mews, so to speak, because he was the one who inadvertently created them! In his “project m” experiment (which went terribly wrong), he ended up zapping the gals with the DNA rays, infusing them with the abilities of the red-tagged animals! However, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise (at least to him it does), and now Ryo must teach these gals how to harness their powers for good to defend the earth. Most of the time he just acts aloof and pretends he doesn’t care, but yeah, we know he does. ;) |
